Personality:
Due to a traumatic event in his life around the age of 6 (and some experimentation afterward by Blondie scientists), B took to withdrawing from people and trying to avoid talking to the majority of human beings. Due to this prolonged withdrawal, B now does not know how to interact with people very well. He tends to seem awkward or strange when talking or interacting with anyone. He is able to act 'normal,' so to say, but he often prefers not to. Part of this is due to the fact that the only person he chose to interact with primarily at the orphanage was L, but due to having done something that he didn't know was wrong and being rejected completely by him, he has not talked to L in years.
Following in L's footsteps, B tends to gravitate towards knowledge. He tries his best to get ahold of more information whenever possible. In this way, he's gotten himself at least close to L's intelligence, if not equally intelligent.
B, despite the rejection from his idol, still wishes he could have his attention. Of everyone in the world, he wants L's attention the most. He dresses like him and puts make-up on to look like him, and he also mimics his mannerisms exactly. He's gotten to the point where he feels uncomfortable in his normal skin, and dresses like L often as his 'normal' appearance. (He steals make-up from shops whenever he can just to ensure he'll always be able to dress up like L) His appearance without make-up is often used as a 'disguise' of sorts. (He dresses and acts 'normally' to keep attention diverted away from him when in stores and such, especially if stealing).
He looked up to him completely while in the orphanage, and he wishes he could be accepted by him again. L's attention is one of his obsessions, and he constantly thinks about how he can gain it back. This, however, may lead to some really bad decisions in the future, considering he knows that Ryuzaki is L, and therefore knows he is a detective.
To explain future intention, he has already been scorned once by L, and upon meeting him again after he's grown older and wiser, will decide L was not really as worthwhile of his time as he originally thought. This is the point in which he decides Ryuzaki is not worthwhile to have the title of 'L.' He decides he'll prove himself as better, as he feels he could be a much better L than Ryuzaki ever was. Of course, the way he goes about proving this will be a bit unorthodox, as he will do so by taking the opposing side to L, and becoming a criminal who cannot be caught.
At this point, we will see he can be on the 'organized psychotic' side. If someone is in the way of his goal, he feels he has the right to simply get rid of them. A way he justifies what he does is the fact that he can 'sense' when people are going to die. If he senses that, then he believes they were going to die anyway, and fate is what killed them in the end, not him. He merely helped fate along. He feels no guilt for what he does.
Background:
B's family was caught in a fire at their 'home' in the slums when he was around 6 years old. He escaped, but not until after he'd already gained some bad burns. His parents weren't so lucky, and died in the fire. He was stuck in the house for a while, and had found his parents after they'd already succumbed to the smoke in the area. He tried to get them out, but wasn't strong enough to pull their bodies very far. He eventually gave up and ran away.
He eventually got to the clinic, but soon after he was taken in there for treatment, some Blondies came by and took him. These Blondies were scientists and felt they were justified in using him as a guinea pig due to his class and lack of parents. The experimentation went on for about a year, but they eventually felt he was a failure and threw him out. These experiments left him with the ability to sense when someone was close to dying, but also left him with eerie-looking red eyes.
He eventually found the Old Home orphanage and, since he had nowhere else to go, decided to stay there. While there, he one dayw as wandering outside and came across Ryuzaki's 'home. He 'befriended' him, as thought this person was very interesting. This relationship can be described much like the 'younger brother to older brother' type of relationship, except at a bit of an obsessive level. B never noticed that Ryuzaki didn't give a damn about him. Even after Ryuzaki moved to another location just to avoid him (B simply found him again).
During his time at the orphanage, he started showing an interest in the mysterious detective 'L.' He would constantly talk about him, unaware that he was talking to the one he spoke of. He started to request people call him 'B' simply because he thought it was cool.
One day, B came by to find L putting on a wig to meet with one of his employers. When he noticed B had seen him, he got angry and fearful, being the paranoid person he is, and told B he never wanted to see him again and to never speak of this day to anyone. B ran away and was not heard from by L again. Later, he connected 2 and 2, being of the intellect he himself was, and came to his own conclusion that Ryuzaki must be L.
He left the orphanage at around the age of 10, and he proceeded to stay at an abandoned building nearby the home he used to live at with his parents. He sometimes goes back to the burnt remains (as no one has cared to fix the place back up) and looks to see if he can find anything salvageable.
